Preparing for Drum Corps- Colorguard Edition

Image
With the past and upcoming tryouts for the 2019 drum corps season in motion, I thought this post would be a great one that most of my friends could relate to. Preparing pre tour for drum corps is essential for a better experience with your corps, in my opinion, not everyone thinks so, but I bet you will after this post.                     When I say preparing I mean very specific things, not just raising money or gathering items for tour, or even the infamous packing for tour. What I mean is preparing your body, preparing your skills and most importantly preparing your mind. One of the top reasons members leave within the first few weeks of tour, besides injuries, is mental stability. And that is totally okay, never feel like if that has happened to you that it was the wrong decision because you need to take care of your body and ...

Who I am and What I do

I will be making a video of this as well, but I am more comfortable blogging that I am in a video!
My fitness journey began when I realized I was tired of feeling sorry for myself, which is normally how most fitness journeys begin it seems. When you think of being tired of feeling sorry for your self, the first area you start to think to better your self is your physical health. That is completely normal. My problem and difference in that is that I did not go into it thinking I was just going to go into it lightly and go to workout classes "with the girls". I went in and I weight lifted. I had always heard that girls shouldn't weight lift because they would get too big. I can tell you that is not true at all. The women body builders you see online or on television have been doing this for years, and when I say years I mean like at least 7-10 years and stay very consistent to look the way they do, so I promise you lifting weights here and there inconsistently (because we are all human), will not turn you into a woman body builder.  I have loss tons of weight and fat doing it, and to be honest even after a little over a year, I still haven't gained really any muscle size, but I want the muscle growth, I want to look stronger. My eating habits and falling off of the wagon constantly have kept me from getting the results I really want. I am very sure that if I had stayed strict and constant throughout, I would have definitely been hitting goals of mine. I have recently found what I needed to succeed though. I needed a personal trainer, I needed that accountability. I needed someone to tell me to get my butt up and get my workout done and to put down the Oreo because it will not make me happy in two weeks or a month. But trainers are expensive, but the online coach I have right now is not. She is uplifting, motivating, creates accountability groups and most of all, she's cheap! She helps me fight through the tough times and to keep pushing forward. So I decided that's exactly how I wanted to help people in their fitness journey.

As most of you know I am now an online fitness coach. Online fitness coaching, to me, is beneficial in a lot of ways for both ends of the spectrum (me and you). As a full time college student with a passion for psychology and a passion for fitness, there rarely is time for anything else, not including my (almost) full time job at the UPS store. I recently obtained my personal training certification and did not really know where to go with that. Most of the gyms around me did not recognize ISSA, they only used ACE, so it was hard to find personal training gyms for that fact, and then it would be extremely costly for my trainees after the fact. Most trainers get paid by the hour per trainee. Most of the time as the trainee, you end up paying almost 200$, A WEEK! That is absolutely insane to me. But, what if there was a way that A) there was not a time excuse and B)it was incredibly affordable? Well, there is, and that is what I do. I do personal training online, its affordable, and can be done at anytime of the day and I am available to my trainees at any point during the day, not just when we "schedule a workout". I don't know about you guys, but my schedule is ever changing, which means my workouts do as well, which is why this way of training and being held accountable is so flexible and easy to keep up with.

The gym I attend now for weight lifting is 25$/month, my online fitness program, accountability groups, motivational post, trainers, coaches, friends, community comes out to about $8.25/month! That is about 200$ in savings a year! I seriously love my job and what I do. And what I do is coach and uplift people in their fitness journeys. It is amazing and motivational to be able to go along with these people and witness their growth and change and I am very happy to have found a great platform to accomplish this on. You could do this too, you could be someone's reason why they kept pushing and why they met their goals, you could change someones life. I promise you will never regret it!
