Preparing for Drum Corps- Colorguard Edition

Image
With the past and upcoming tryouts for the 2019 drum corps season in motion, I thought this post would be a great one that most of my friends could relate to. Preparing pre tour for drum corps is essential for a better experience with your corps, in my opinion, not everyone thinks so, but I bet you will after this post.                     When I say preparing I mean very specific things, not just raising money or gathering items for tour, or even the infamous packing for tour. What I mean is preparing your body, preparing your skills and most importantly preparing your mind. One of the top reasons members leave within the first few weeks of tour, besides injuries, is mental stability. And that is totally okay, never feel like if that has happened to you that it was the wrong decision because you need to take care of your body and ...

"I have anxiety" has become a common phrase recently. Whether it's being said because someone is explaining why they are acting funny or explaining why they never leave their room, so many people use it as a reason for their worries. This, to my attention, has led to anxiety being pushed under the table as a "common cold". Letting someone know you have anxiety is like letting them know you have a pimple on your forehead. It goes through one ear and out of the other, and it should not be like this. Having true "Generalized Anxiety Disorder" is so much more different than having "anxiety" and throwing it around so much creates a wall around the ones who struggle with generalized anxiety disorder every day, fearing to say anything to anyone because "everyone has it, you aren't special".           A very important thing to remember is that people with true "Generalized Anxiety Disorder", have just that, a disord...

Why You Should Study In A Coffee Shop

Image
Coffee Shops around the U.S. and even the world are making their mark on 'millennials'. Why? My thoughts are that more and more people or 'millennials' are wanting to expand their horizons and intake more knowledge and get more degrees, and the perfect place to prepare for all of this is at a simple, cozy coffee shop. It is a way to be completely obsessed with studying and getting those A pluses while also staying connected to the outside world. Hiding in a library just does not cut it anymore.  An article from spoon university ( Science Proves You Should Be Studying In A Coffee Shop) , states the evidence found in how a coffee shop can improve your study skills. It 1.) apparently makes you more creative. Maybe that is why we all seem basic when we decide to take a candid photo of our coffee. It is not that we are basic, we are just thinking of an outside of the box way to display what we did with our day, and that consisted of sitting at a caffeinated cafe and we t...

5 Things That Could Improve Your Productivity

5 Things That Could Improve Your Productivity EXERCISE: Exercising, for me, is an escape from the day before. I normally wake up around 6 A.M. and drive the 1 mile to my local gym. Once there, I plug in my headphones and go ham at the gym. I let go of all my worries and problems from the day before. Doing this restarts something in my brain and clears my slate for a new day. If you are worrying about things that happened yesterday then it can really inhibit your ability to focus and get things done today. Exercise is a proven way to relieve stress and get that weight off your back. Doing this at the start of the day, I believe, sets up a very productive platform to hit the ground running on the things you wish to complete, present day.  GO TO BED EARLIER: Now I know this topic is the least popular one because as a population, we all feel we have so much to get done, or so much socializing we feel we need. That is completely normal and acceptable to feel as if y...
